Alocasia lauterbachiana, often referred to as the "Purple Sword" Alocasia, is native to the northern part of New Guinea and a few of its costal islands.  It's sword-shaped leaves are deep green with a pleasing ruby-purple hue on the underside and can reach as much as 5 feet in length on mature specimens!  Alocasias prefer consistent moisture and some additional humidity (like a pebble tray or occasional misting) when grown indoors.
